Summary Review
|
: |
If there ever was an internet poker site that personified British snooty-ness, then William Hill Poker is that place. With its name in fancy cursive, its royal blue colors, its giant picture of William Hill on the cover, all that's missing is the bad teeth. Yet with some decent satellites and fair promos, perhaps the whole British theme can be overlooked. Besides, if you were to play with William Hill Poker, you are in all likelihood British anyways, so this may be the closest thing to normal there is on the internet. If all British people were walking stereotypes, that is. Which they are.

The Poker Website
When you first open up the web page for William Hill Poker you are greeted with a very large picture of a man made up of smaller pictures, kind of like when you combine small television screens in a sports bar to make a big screen. While trying to discern if I had stepped into some world of gay porn, I noticed a few poker links around this humongous face and decided to click them. If you take away the giant face, the website is pretty nice looking, a classy joint that rivals the halls of Buckingham Palace. There is also a share of British arrogance, with even the poker table having a giant "William Hill" logo on it.
Registering, Cashing and Playing Poker
Most of the deposit options are through the European channels, but there is NETeller for Yanks who insist on playing Brit games. I'm not sure what you're going to do with the 25 Pounds Sterling, but I imagine if you've come this far, you're quite aware of the current exchange rates. Perhaps you've even discussed with your banker how the Asian market can affect global currency volatility. And while you've done that I'll continue to do my own research of pornographic videos. What does that have to do with the global currency market? Nothing.
Despite all this madness, William Hill Poker does offer satellites to the World Series of Poker, as well as the EPT. The interface on their poker sites is clean and they offer the standard Texas Hold 'em, Omaha and 7 Card Stud.
Bonuses and Poker Promos
Rather than give you an initial bonus, William Hill Poker tries to suck you in a different way, by paying you 5 pounds for every hour you play, up to 25 pounds a month. Quite original, and by original I mean originally bad, because no player ever wants a payment plan versus a lump sum. I'm speaking of course, from a marketing standpoint, because in actuality the lump sum has to be earned gradually by playing raked hands anyway, making it hardly a lump sum. Solve for X and divide by pie.
In addition, William Hill Poker will occasionally invite you to create a table and pay you up to 20 pounds and hour to play, depending on the stakes. This is a much better promotion, although who knows when you will actually get the call. It's not as if they have a bat signal to let you know and if they did, I would want to know where they got one, so I can get one myself.
Online Poker Customer Service
In addition to a search machine for answering questions, there are email and telephone numbers you can call. However, you must go through a maze of fiery hell just to find these numbers. Once you find this section, you'll find more phone numbers, fax numbers and mailing addresses than there are countries or at least countries that matter. They even provide the country codes. How nice of them. You know what would be even nicer? If they actually had a number that didn't require calling internationally and incurring massive charges.
Overall Poker Rating
William Hill Poker has a well designed website, but as a primarily international poker area it's a lot like the local burger joint that everybody loves but nobody outside the county knows. Which I suppose wouldn't be a hindrance if they were selling burgers, but they are peddling poker, which requires players. Plus they're so snooty.
