Summary Review
|
: |
Pacific Poker's slogan is "Play poker with others," and I'm inclined to agree. After all, poker is not a game to be played by yourself, lest it would be called solitaire or something of that sort. In any case, Pacific Poker pimps itself out as a poker site for the beginner, which if not made obvious by their slogan can be deduced by the 27 poker lessons offered by parka wearing bird, Toucan Tony. Not sure if Tony is related at all to Toucan Sam, but perhaps he is some kind of evil poker playing twin who Sam is ashamed of, like Wesley and Woody in that movie "Money Train Wreck." Or was it "Money Train?" Seemed like the prior would be more appropriate.

Poker Website
Right off the bat we see four people playing poker, two of them with cigars. Only one person has won the pot, but everyone seems to be having fun. Pacific Poker must be one hell of a time, win or lose! Actually, after some careful Batman-like detective work, you can see that while the winner is smiling because he is raking in the chips, his buddy next to him is giving him a sheepish smile as if he wanted to partake in a homosexual relationship. The homosexual man's wife, obviously not getting any at home, appears to be grinning at the other man across the table, who is smiling back at her. In fact, the woman doesn't even realize the hand is over and is still holding her cards. Clearly, there are other motives involved here. After all, no one smiles after losing a hand.
As for the actual site, navigation is fairly simple, and far from cluttered. There are links to "Poker School," where I'm sure you can earn a degree as reputable as the one I earned from the renowned ITT Tech. Furthermore there is a link to the "Player's Club" with more helpful information. Of course, I can only assume this club includes Rappin' 4tay. Remember that song? Me and my homies, we tight like a glove, something-something-something, rappin' at the playa's club.
Registration and Poker Play
Pacific Poker offers a choice of both flash-based and downloadable software for your playing pleasure, so you don't have to worry about installing new programs on your computer only to have the whole thing blow up. Which tells you how much I know about computers. In any case, upon registration, I was disappointed to find the username "cockball" was taken, and had to immediately go to my backup "cockbald." A poor substitute, I know, but I've been given a deadline and as a result my time is being pressed. One harrying thing about registration is that Pacific Poker is very slow in sending you a password, a problem that could easily be solved by allowing you to assign your own password. But that would only make sense.
Once you have entered, you will find that the stakes are relatively low (tops out at 15/30), another reflection that Pacific Poker caters to the new player. Unsatisfied with the lack of action, I went searching for Toucan Tony to see if he would partake in alternating shots of whiskey and heroin. Unfortunately, Tony was too busy teaching four year olds the value of the all-in raise when your opponent limps in and I didn't want to interrupt him as it could affect the future. Because I believe, and I say this with much determination, that the children are our future. Lift them up and something. Yeah.
Poker Bonuses and Promotions
The "Welcome, how do you do, bastard" bonus was recently increased from 25% to 50%, with a cap of $100. You must deposit a minimum of $20 to receive the bonus and the bonus amount must be wagered twenty times in order to cash it out. Therefore, as the people at Pacific Poker tell us, $2,000 must be wagered before a $100 bonus can be cashed. Unless of course, you deposited via Chinese debit cards. Then you must wager 60 times the amount. Clearly, the Chinese are being shafted here, but those are the difficulties you must face when playing with Communist money. The Proletariat shares their earnings and under normal circumstances doesn't gamble it away, which may bring questions abound to the Capitalists at Pacific Poker.
In addition, you may also earn bonus points, which can be converted to actual dollars. For every ten dollars you wager on raked hands, you receive a point and for every hundred bonus points you earn a dollar. Spend a thousand dollars, earn a dollar back. Kind of like your Discover Card.
Poker Customer Service and Cashing Out
Pacific Poker, as you might expect from a site that is geared toward the new player, offers excellent customer service in a variety of ways. They offer lessons, FAQ, help sections and if all else fails, the standard telephone numbers and emails.
Users can always chime in with Pacific Poker's quick polls, which remind me of an attention-seeking dog always looking for praise and self assurance. Anyways, the results from the polls are in and it appears that most people enjoy the tournaments and services offered by Pacific Poker. Not that these polls would stop Darth Vader, er, George Bush from winning.
On the other hand, Pacific Poker offers some of the slowest cash-outs on the internet. There are three steps in the bureaucracy of Pacific Poker that are involved here, the "awaiting process stage," the "in process stage," and the "processed" stage. Ultimately, you can expect your money sometime in the year 2056, and only if you are still among the living at the time. Perhaps your children will know what to do with it.
Overall Poker Rating
Pacific Poker is a site for the novice player and therefore if you fall into that category, I highly recommend you try this site, if for nothing else than to get poker lessons from a talking bird. Although the payouts are relatively slow, you, being the novice player, won't be playing more than 15/30 games anyway and therefore you won't be needing these funds to pay the mortgage. For what it seeks to accomplish, I enjoy Pacific Poker. Now if they can only do something about their ridiculous slogan.
