Summary Review

With the gambling age at 21 and college kids needing to fill the time between not studying, downloading illegal music and excessive masturbation, the folks in the poker world created the College Poker Championship to help fill the void. It's an annual event that allows college students to win scholarships, prizes and take school rivalries to a level basket-brawls and steroid using athletes can only hope to attain. After all, this is the only event where the average keg drinking, marijuana smoking athlete can participate and playing for bragging rights sure beats leaving those rights in the hands of somebody else.

The Poker Website
Right away a familiar face plops on the screen, "that guy" holding the microphone at every major tournament ever made. His real name, Matt Savage, is of little consequence, since you probably will forget it in the next day or two. Hell, you might remember it, but you won't know from where, and you'll figure anyone named "Matt Savage" is some kind of gay porn star. In any case, "that guy," the voice of the World Series of Poker and WPT, also happens to be the tournament director of the College Poker Championship. Instantaneous legitimacy.
Now for all you old folks, you're probably wondering, can alumni play? The answer is no. Young freshman are also excluded, lest you have already turned eighteen, which you probably have anyway, unless you're some sort of Doogie Howser.
The play is purely Texas Hold 'em, as if there was any other real poker game anyhow and one main tournament to decide the best in the college game. In addition, there are 37 satellites to make the final table and $500 in prizes awarded weekly.
As for the school rivalries, points are awarded for placing well in the satellites, which count toward the eventual team score.
Be the Don King of College Poker
Not a very good player, but have good people skills? You can be a campus rep and recruit players for cash. I am too lazy to explain such matters, so here is a nifty little chart.
Referrals
50 students = $50
100 students = $75
150 students = $100
200 students = $125
300 students = $150
You can also win cash if your referrals place in the top 10. Now, all this is not as lucrative as Mr. "Only in America" King's contracts, I'm sure, but cash nonetheless. Being that you are doing it only because you suck at poker the same way Don King sucks at fighting, it isn't half bad. What? Good players can recruit too? Preposterous. College kids can't do two things at the same time, they are too damaged from all the booze.
Poker Service
Since this is technically not a gambling website, there is no customer service. However, if you have questions, which I'm sure you may, there is a Frequently Asked Questions area and the obligatory email if you are still having trouble registering, playing or are just plain stupid.
Overall Poker Rating
The College Poker Championship is an excellent way to increase the scope of the sport, as well as brainwash our young the same way the cigarette companies go after children. Poker is a wonderful vice and should be required by law to be played weekly along with children's regular physical education curriculum. The site, if nothing else, is the first step towards doing so and with "that guy" running the show, it should be a mainstay for some time.
