Summary Review
|

When the French brought the card game that would eventually become poker to the United States, the history books forgot to mention the poker playing sea captains that would bluff all-in on a two-seven off suit one minute, then kill dozens of swashbuckling pirates the next. You see, that was the kind of poker one Captain Cook used to play, along with his entrepreneur brother, Captain Crunch. Yes, while the Crunch family went on to start their own breakfast cereal, the Cook family branched out into the world of internet poker and here we are. By the way, I just made all that up.

The Poker Website
When you enter Captain Cook's Poker's Gaming area, you are immediately blessed with a photo of Captain Cook himself! Why, he looks like a spry Thomas Jefferson! Amazing! In the Captain Cook's Poker poker area, there is also a scantily clad woman holding about nine cards. I'm not sure what game she's playing, perhaps some perverse version of Texas Hold 'em or perhaps she invented 9 card stud, but who really cares since she's half naked. Oh, Captain Cook, you are a naughty one. In addition to games, glossaries and cheap floozies, Captain Cook's Poker has articles from poker players like Vince Burgio.
Playing the Poker
Captain Cook's Poker has everything you want from a depositing standpoint, a hedonistic cornucopia of credit cards and internet bank accounts. Hell, Captain Cook's Poker even has a Chinese debit card option, which can only mean the old Captain has his eye on the East Asian market. He's a sly one, that Captain. As for the poker, Captain Cook's Poker is strong like crunchberries in terms of large scale tournaments. With 75 and 100K tourneys on a weekly basis, with both satellites and a direct buy-in, it's hard not to get your big money fix. Captain Cook's Poker also has daily tourneys up to 25K and a satellite to the 2005 World Series of Poker. On the other hand, any poker site that features "I press deal and the card is dealt, but it does not flip over" as a FAQ, reeks of potential problems.
Bonuses and Poker Promos
Captain Cook's Poker initial bonus is 50% up to $50. Not bad, not great, not worth telling your friends, unless you're trying to get the $100 for referring them. There is also good news from the Captain himself, who has declared that every Sunday people will get a 100% match bonus up to $50. The Captain is, after all, feeling mighty generous on Sundays, as opposed to Wednesdays, where deposits are greeted with a knife through the gall bladder.
Poker Service
In lieu of an actual phone number, the Captain has decided it may be cheaper and easier to install a phone back service where the old Captain calls you. This is a stark indication that the Captain doesn't get many phone calls, which can either mean minimal players or outstanding email and live chat service. Due to the high Captain Cook's Poker stakes in tournaments, I have deduced that this is due to the fast service and a test run proved likewise. Captain Cook's Poker is fast and helpful.
Overall Poker Rating
When the Captain is not off capturing some land and proclaiming it England, he is running a damn serviceable poker site. Although Captain Cook's Poker is still trying to climb the hypothetical poker ladder, Captain Cook's Poker is like the baseball scouts say a five-tool player, meaning they have all the tools necessary (tourneys, games, bonuses, articles, um - okay maybe four tools) to run a successful internet poker business. The size thing will come in time. Maybe.
